It’s another day In Saginaw, Michigan. Are you bored looking for something to do? Why not try heading down to the newly renovated 100,000 square foot historic Saginaw News building which now houses the SVRC Marketplace. Located in the heart of the city the SVRC Marketplace has revitalized the beautiful Saginaw Riverfront community.
When you walk in you will notice the indoor European Style Market loaded with over 40 local small business vendors. You will find a wide variety of food to savor. I could almost describe it as a giant gourmet food court with some retail shops including Artisan goods in between. You will see people here from all walks of life and If you work in the area it’s a great option for lunch. You will not leave hungry unless you choose to do so.
There is public seating throughout the first floor atrium or you can head up to the 2nd floor atrium and overlook the historic front lobby or the outdoor historic plaza as well as the Marketplace Pavilion. All in all it’s great new place to just hang out in downtown Saginaw.
SVRC Marketplace Pavilion is used seasonally by the Downtown Saginaw Farmers Market. The Saginaw Farmers Market brings you the best fresh produce, locally grown from Michigan and around the world! Whether you need fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, cut flower bouquets, organic handmade soaps, honey, delicious pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, incredible chocolates, caramel corn, jams & jellies, or just want to stop for lunch, you will find great foods from area vendors. It’s also good to know The SVRC Marketplace is open year around.
History of the Marketplace Project & Its Mission
SVRC Industries, is redeveloping the iconic former Saginaw News building into a 100,000 square foot mixed-use facility, to be named the SVRC Marketplace. The Marketplace will impact the community by bringing an estimated 10,000 people to the Downtown Saginaw riverfront weekly.
The SVRC Marketplace is a sustainable project that builds on SVRC’s core-mission of creating employment opportunities and community access by offering healthy food options, integrated jobs, supportive services, and vibrant gathering spaces in a single downtown development. The SVRC Marketplace will be a mixed-use facility supporting a year-round indoor farmers’ market, unique shopping experience offering a wide variety of delicious foods and quaint shops. This eclectic space will feature opportunities for local entrepreneurs to spread their wings by offering a licensed commercial kitchen, wash/pack food preparation stations, business-incubators, cooler rental spaces, and affordable locations within the Marketplace to grow their businesses. The Downtown Saginaw Farmer’s Market will reside under the SVRC Marketplace Pavilion. The SVRC Marketplace will cater to shoppers looking for fresh produce wonderful food and great local merchants.

Since 1962, SVRC Industries, Inc. has created opportunities and support systems for persons with barriers to employment and community access in Saginaw County and beyond. Our programs empower people through job training and placement, vocational rehabilitation, industrial operations, counseling services and advocacy for individuals with mental and physical disabilities. We also serve our clients by offering transitional living experiences with the SVRC apartments and through educational programs to at risk youth. Our organization collaborates with numerous companies in the Great Bay Lakes Region, serving over 10,000 clients annually.
The Marketplace is closed on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday to allow for the successful development of locally owned, small business! We are not a big-box store and cannot operate as such.
