Everybody has heard of Taco Tuesday. Even if you are not a fan of Mexican food you have heard the phrase Taco Tuesday in your travels and I am sure a lot of you look forward to stuffing your face with as many awesome Tacos as you can on Taco Tuesday, I would be lying if I said I haven’t been guilty of it at least once or twice.
Have you ever wondered where the phrase came from, who invented it or the history of Taco Tuesday?
Well believe it or not since 1989 the phrase Taco Tuesday has a Federal Trademark by a mid western fast food chain called Taco John’s. Although I don’t believe it to be enforced much considering how wide spread it is used businesses can not legally use the phrase Taco Tuesday.
Taken from the Thrillist.com The earliest-documented advertisement for a Tuesday taco special I could find is in the classified section of the October 16, 1933, edition of the El Paso Herald-Post. Under the headline “Some Good Things to Remember,” the White Star Cafeteria at the St. Regis launched a weeklong campaign to let everyone know it sold “Mexican Tacos” on Tuesday — three for just 15 cents.
No mater who invented phrase I think it is safe to say that Taco Tuesday will be widely used through out our life time and if by chance you visit Norway you will have the pleasure of Taco Friday. I wonder if that one is trademarked?
